Mexico is the 5th largest country in the Americas and the 13th largest independent country in the world. It’s population is over 120 million. Mexico is made up of 31 states and a Federal District (it’s capital and largest city).

Mexico is home to many tourist destinations such as Cancun, Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta, Riviera Maya, and Acapulco. It’s a popular winter getaway because of its warm year-round climate. It’s a popular spring break destination for American and Canadian students in February and March. The tourist cities are popular travel destinations with Mexican residents during Mexican holidays as well.

Mexico has more to offer than just pretty beaches. Tulum is the ruins of a pre-Columbian Mayan walled city located on tall cliffs on the Yucatan Peninsula. Chichen Itza is the archaeological site of a large pre-Columbian Mayan city; it was voted one of the seven wonders of the world because, during the spring equinox, the setting sunlight plays tricks to fabricate a snake slithering up the pyramid. Tourists can take a trip to the cenotes, or natural springs sometimes underground. There are many exciting things to see and do in Mexico!

Mexico has a turbulent recent history of violence and war, driving many tourists to seek out other vacation destinations. While it’s true that Mexico doesn’t have the political stability that the United States or other countries may have, most of the turmoil is located in smaller, inland villages. The coastal tourist destinations of Mexico are safe for travelers. Tourism in Mexico is a very large industry, and it will continue to be for years to come. When traveling to Mexico, it is safe to leave your resort and venture out into the city; in fact, it’s encouraged. You will miss out on the wonders Mexico has to offer if you never leave your hotel! The trouble of Mexico’s interior and borders isn’t anywhere near the tourist destinations.
